Cookie Policy

1. What are cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the website remember your actions, preferences, and login state over time. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixels — collectively referred to as "cookies" in this policy.
ChiefEngineer.in uses cookies to make the site work, keep you logged in, and understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
2. Types of cookies we use
2.1 Essential cookies
These are required for the website to function. They enable core features like logging in, accessing your dashboard, and protecting against security threats (CSRF). You cannot disable these without breaking the site.
2.2 Analytics cookies
These help us understand how visitors use ChiefEngineer.in — which pages are popular, how long people stay, and where they drop off. All data is aggregated and used only to improve the site experience.
2.3 Functional cookies
These remember your preferences, such as your last selected calculator, and personalise your experience on return visits.
2.4 Authentication cookies (Google Sign-In)
If you sign in with Google, Google's GSI script sets cookies to manage your authentication session. These are governed by Google's own cookie policies.
3. Cookie list
Below is a list of the main cookies we set and what they do:
| Cookie name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
PHPSESSID |
Essential | Maintains your login session and CSRF token | Session |
ce_guest_ok |
Functional | Remembers if you dismissed the first-visit prompt | 1 day |
ce_login_prompted |
Functional | Tracks whether login modal has been shown (per tab) | Session |
_ga, _gid |
Analytics | Anonymous page-view tracking (if Google Analytics enabled) | 2 years / 24 hours |
g_state, __Secure-* |
Auth | Google Sign-In session tokens | Varies (Google-managed) |
Note: We also maintain an internal page_views log on our server for analytics — this is not a cookie, but a server-side record of visits. It stores only page URLs, timestamps, IP address, and session ID, not personal identity unless you are logged in.
4. Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by third parties when you use our site:
- Google (Sign-In): Used for authentication when you log in with Google.
- Payment gateways (Razorpay, etc.): Set during checkout for fraud protection and payment security.
- Email delivery: Some transactional email links may contain tracking pixels (used only for delivery confirmation).
These third-party services have their own cookie and privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.
5. How to manage cookies
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
You can also browse in incognito / private mode to prevent cookies from being stored long-term.
6. Your consent
By using ChiefEngineer.in, you consent to our use of essential cookies necessary for the site to function. For analytics and functional cookies, we aim to provide clear notice and options where required by applicable law.
As India's DPDP Act and Rules come into full effect, we will implement a consent banner that lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies individually. You can always withdraw consent by adjusting your browser settings or contacting us.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in technology, regulation, or our practices. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the latest revision. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
